AI subscription bundles vs single plans: what you actually get

Some AI subscriptions bundle several tools for one price. Whether that saves money depends on which features you actually use.

A bundle pays off only when you would use most of what it includes. For a typical user, one $20 chat plan covers the most ground, and a second plan makes sense only for a specific job such as coding. The cheapest bundles, Google AI Pro and Microsoft 365 Premium, both cost $19.99 per month and mostly add storage and office tools to the AI.

What counts as a bundle

Most AI subscriptions are single-vendor plans. ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Grok SuperGrok and Cursor Pro each give you one company's models and tools. A true bundle packages AI with something else you may already pay for.

In my price data, these are the main bundles:

  • Google AI Pro, $19.99 per month: 4x higher usage limits than Free, 1,000 Google Flow Credits, 5 TB of cloud storage and higher limits for the Jules coding agent.
  • Microsoft 365 Premium, $19.99 per month: Advanced Copilot chat with extensive usage, extensive AI image creation in Copilot, and agentic features including advanced research and analytics.
  • Meta AI (Meta One) Premium, $19.99 per month: Everything in Core, plus the most room to create content with Meta AI. Core costs $7.99 per month and includes Instagram Plus, WhatsApp Plus and Facebook Plus.

Google AI Pro is the strongest of these if you need storage. Microsoft 365 Premium makes sense mainly if you already work in Office. Meta One matters mainly if you use Meta's apps every day.

Single plans and what they cover

General chat plans are cheap at the entry level and then climb:

PlanPrice per monthKey points
ChatGPT Go$8Codex with GPT-6 Luna at Standard speed in the desktop app, subject to rollout
Le Chat (Mistral Vibe) Pro$14.99More messages and web searches, all-day coding in the CLI, IDE or on web
ChatGPT Plus$20Codex on the web, in the CLI, in the IDE extension and on iOS; usage can be extended with ChatGPT credits; API billed separately
Claude Pro$20More usage than Free, Claude Code included, Fable only via usage credits
Grok SuperGrok$30Higher rate limits across all features, Grok Bot access, image and video generation

For coding, the single plans are Cursor Pro at $20 per month (extended Agent limits, frontier models, cloud agents, Bugbot on usage-based billing) and GitHub Copilot Pro at $10 per month. Copilot Pro includes $15 per month in total GitHub AI Credits, made up of $10 base and a $5 flex allotment.

ChatGPT and Claude also have higher tiers. ChatGPT Pro 100 is $100 per month, Pro 200 is $200, and Pro 500 is $500. Only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast mode. Claude Max 5x is $100 per month with 5x more usage than Pro, and Max 20x is $200 with 20x more usage. They include $100 and $200 per month in API credits respectively.

What the model prices mean for your plan

A subscription hides the cost of the model behind it. In my measurements, the median chat answer across 334 models costs 0.24¢. GPT-6 Luna costs 0.06¢ per answer ($0.59 per 1,000). Claude Sonnet 5.5 costs 1.3¢ ($12.68 per 1,000). Claude Fable 5.1 costs 6.3¢ ($63.41 per 1,000).

A flat subscription caps your spend, while API usage grows with every answer. Short questions will likely fit inside a $20 plan. Long agent tasks change that. My agent scenario uses an 8,000-token system prompt, 50 steps, 1,500 extra tokens of context per step and 300 visible output tokens per step. Reasoning tokens are billed as output, so a heavily reasoning model costs more than its visible answer suggests. Check the official pricing pages for current included usage per tier, and use the calculator to price your own workload.

Which tasks each setup covers

A single $20 chat plan handles most general work: email replies, drafts, questions, summarizing PDFs and proofreading text. ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro both do this.

Coding changes the picture. Code review and writing SQL queries are where a coding plan earns its price. Copilot Pro costs less than a second general plan, and Cursor Pro costs the same, and both are built for the editor you already use.

Images, video and audio need their own tools. Midjourney Basic is $10 per month, Suno Pro is $10 and ElevenLabs Starter is $6. A chat bundle does not replace them, so do not expect Google AI Pro or Microsoft 365 Premium to cover serious creative media.

The setup for a typical user

For most people, one $20 chat plan is the right choice. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost the same and cover the same general tasks, so pick the one whose tools you prefer. Add Cursor Pro or Copilot Pro only if you write code every week. Pay for a second general plan only when you hit limits in the first.

Choose a bundle when its extra parts replace something you already pay for. Google AI Pro is worth it if you need 5 TB of storage. Microsoft 365 Premium is worth it if you live in Office. A bundle that adds services you would not otherwise use is just a more expensive way to get one chat plan.

FAQ

Is Google AI Pro cheaper than ChatGPT Plus?

Slightly. Google AI Pro is $19.99 per month and ChatGPT Plus is $20, so the gap is one cent. Choose Google AI Pro if you need its 5 TB of storage, otherwise pick on the tools you prefer.

Do I need a coding plan if I already pay for a chat plan?

Not always. ChatGPT Plus includes Codex and Claude Pro includes Claude Code, but Cursor Pro and GitHub Copilot Pro are built for daily work in an editor. Add one only if you write code often.

Which single plan should I start with?

Start with ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, both $20 per month. Move to a higher tier only when you consistently run out of included usage.
