Copilot Pro costs $10 per month and includes $15 in GitHub AI Credits, so all three Copilot plans give you more AI credit value than their sticker price. Cursor Pro costs $20 per month, but my data lists no credit figure for it, so a direct value comparison is not possible. The bigger cost lever for heavy use is the model: API costs for code review and agent runs vary by well over 100 times between models.
The plans
Prices are USD per month from official pages as of 2026-10-11.
| Plan | Monthly price | Included AI value in my data |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub Copilot Pro | $10 | $15 in credits ($10 base + $5 flex) |
| GitHub Copilot Pro+ | $39 | $70 in credits ($39 base + $31 flex) |
| GitHub Copilot Max | $100 | $200 in credits ($100 base + $100 flex) |
| Cursor Pro | $20 | Extended limits on Agent, frontier models, cloud agents, Bugbot on usage-based billing |
| Cursor Pro+ | $60 | No details listed |
| Cursor Ultra | $200 | No details listed |
| Cursor Teams | $40 | Centralized team billing and administration |
Copilot prints the credit allotment on the plan. Pro gives $15 for $10. Pro+ gives $70 for $39. Max gives $200 for $100. Cursor's listings describe limits and features without a dollar figure, so I cannot make the same comparison.
A plan price tells you what you pay the vendor. It does not tell you how much compute you get.
What the same work costs through an API
To judge whether credits are generous, compare them with API costs for the same work. I measure two relevant tasks. Details are on the methodology page.
Code review
The task reviews 497 lines of CPython's textwrap.py. The median across all 326 models is 1.4¢ per review.
| Model | Cost per review | Per 1,000 | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-6 Luna | 0.31¢ | $3.08 | measured |
| Claude Haiku 5.5 | 0.66¢ | $6.61 | measured |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | 8.0¢ | $79.66 | measured |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | 16¢ | $159.33 | estimated |
| Claude Fable 5.1 | 40¢ | $398.32 | estimated |
Sonnet 5.5 costs about 26 times as much as GPT-6 Luna per review. Part of the gap is price: Luna lists at $0.10 input and $0.50 output per 1M tokens, against $2.00 and $10.00 for Sonnet. Sonnet also sent more input tokens (7,117 vs 4,557) and more output tokens (3,067 vs 337). See the GPT-6 Luna page and the Claude Sonnet 5.5 page for the breakdown.
A 50-step coding agent run
My modeled scenario uses an 8,000-token system prompt, 50 steps, 1,500 extra context tokens per step, and 300 visible output tokens per step. The median across all models is 48¢ per run.
| Model | Cost per run (cached) | Per 1,000 runs | Without caching |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-6 Luna | 4.1¢ | $40.71 | $0.23 |
| Claude Haiku 5.5 | 6.6¢ | $66.35 | $0.34 |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | 84¢ | $841.64 | $6.52 |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | $1.68 | $1,683.28 | $13.04 |
| GPT-6 Astra | $3.72 | $3,721.00 | $23.12 |
Caching matters a lot. Sonnet 5.5 costs 84¢ per run with caching and $6.52 without. Opus 5.5 drops from $13.04 to $1.68. Agent loops resend the growing context at every step, so a tool that caches well pays a fraction of the uncached price.

What this means for Copilot and Cursor
My data does not say which models either tool routes requests to, what credit rate each model consumes, or how many credits one agent step uses. I cannot say how many agent runs a given plan covers. I can still reason about scale:
- Copilot Pro, $15 in credits: 1,000 Sonnet 5.5 agent runs cost $841.64 at API rates. A heavy agent user on frontier models could use up $15 quickly, though a single run at 84¢ is small against it.
- Copilot Max, $200 in credits: the largest buffer in the Copilot lineup, with a $100 base plus a $100 flex allotment.
- Cursor Pro, $20: no credit figure in my data, so compare on features and limits. Pro+ at $60 and Ultra at $200 sit near Copilot Pro+ ($39) and Max ($100) in price, but their value cannot be compared directly.
For code review, model choice matters little in dollars. Even the most expensive model in my review list, Claude Fable 5.1, costs 40¢ per review, or $398.32 per 1,000.
For long agent sessions, model choice is the bigger lever. GPT-6 Luna at 4.1¢ versus Claude Opus 5.5 at $1.68 is about 41 times per run.
How to decide
- Start with workload. Occasional review and light agent use fit the lower tiers.
- Read the credit line on Copilot plans. It is the only place my data gives a dollar figure for included AI usage.
- Ask Cursor what credit or usage rate applies per model. That number decides whether Pro is enough for agent work.
- Test on your own repo. My task numbers are a reference point, not a forecast for your code.

FAQ
Does GitHub Copilot Pro include more than $10 of AI usage?
Yes. It includes $15 in total GitHub AI Credits: a $10 base plus a $5 flex allotment.
Can I compare Cursor Pro's value directly with Copilot Pro?
Not with my current data. Cursor's listings describe limits and features but state no credit dollar amount, so only the prices ($20 vs $10) can be compared.
How much does a 50-step agent run cost through an API?
It depends on the model. In my modeled scenario the median is 48¢ per run, GPT-6 Luna is 4.1¢, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 is 84¢. Caching changes these numbers a lot.
